Frogmore, despite its name, contains nary a frog. Nor is it a stew: it’s served on a plate and you eat it with a fork (or fingers). Frogmore Stew is named after a town on St. Helena Island where this lowcountry dish is said to have originated. One reason that Frogmore is South Carolina’s state dish is that, unlike other picnic fare (such as burgers or steaks), Frogmore is served all-at-once with no waiting in line! You’ll want to be on hand, just to see it served — it takes about four men to put it on the table!
What you will find in Frogmore Stew is shrimp, Polska Kielbasa (smoked
sausage), new potatoes, corn-on-the-cob, Vidalia onions, and (depending on
the cook) crab legs and/or crawfish. Frogmore is served “pick & choose”
style, so non-seafood diners can leave the best stuff for the rest of us

Gilbert-Stephenson Park is located on Van Cleve Street in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. If you were coming from the big intersection of Lafayette Road and Battlefield Parkway (a.k.a. Georgia Highway 2), then you would travel East on Battlefield Parkway for about half a mile. At the second stop light you would turn right (South) onto Van Cleve Street and travel about a tenth of a mile. You will see a sign on the right marking the entrance to the park (a.k.a. Norris Street). The "Baxter Shavers J.B.Bass" pavilion is located at the VERY BACK of the park. There is a small road that emerges from the right-hand side of the parking lot that is in front of the pool. This road takes you to a parking lot that is behind the pool, where additional (closer) parking is available.
