YTC (Your Turn, Canton) is a group that plays hobbyist board games that uses a “Pick & Prep” format. Members may select from either their own or a fellow player’s collection.

If a game is of medium or heavier weight players prepare beforehand (typically watching a tutorial video). Learning the game beforehand lets us get straight into the fun and maximizes game time.

  • Players only need to understand the basics. Rule clarification questions are still expected during gameplay. Prior familiarity ramps up player comprehension as they re-experience the rules in context.

  • If the setup is significant, the game owner can arrive 30 minutes early. Also, factions can be selected in advance.

  • Expansions, variants, and player-counts can be leveraged to ease AP or duration as necessary.

  • The owner is traditionally first in turn order to demonstrate flow if the other players are new to the game.

  • We meet in my house, so it’s a clean, family-friendly, and casual vibe
